Huntin' Fool

Sometimes I am a little jealous of Jason because of all the time he gets to spend in the mountains. Yes, I know that his hunting borders on obsessive and the amount of time and money he invests in it is sometimes a little (a lot) too much, but I still think it must be nice to get out of civilization, or even out of the house, as much as he does. However, when he asked me to go hunting with him up along the Alpine Loop a few weeks ago, I gave him a resounding "no." Get up at 4 am to freeze my tail off? And what about the kids? It's a school day, for crying out loud. Here's how the conversation went:

"Oh come on, it will be fun."
"No."
"We can spend the night at my mom's and she can watch the kids."
"No."
"You'll be able to hear the elk bugling and see the sunrise and all the changing leaves."
"No."
"We might run into Robert Redford on his horse."
"Okay."

So I was persuaded. I'm glad I went, actually. It all worked out and although I didn't see Robert Redford, I like to think he was sitting on the other side of his property line, watching me and thinking about how I would be perfect for the role of reluctant housewife hunter in his next Sundance film. Now that I think about it, I totally should have carved my phone number into a tree. I bet the phone would be ringing right now. Oh well, hindsight is always 20/20. (What does that mean?) Anyway, here are some pictures from the trip. Although I won't admit it to Jason, it was a good time, and it was very beautiful.

You have to be THE coolest wife. :o) I'm sure you did have so much fun though...especially with a great mother in law to watch your kids for you. Jason probably loved having you around...and I'm sure it was relaxing. I'm glad you got to go!! I would've wanted to meet Robert Redford, too. I was in love with him, as a young girl, ever since I saw one of my favorite movies ever...The Way We Were. Yes, I know I'm a dork...but I seriously loved "Hubble Gardner". Even though he's A LOT older now... I still would be so happy if I ever got to meet him. You're right..... You should have carved your # in a tree. Only that probably would have really pissed HIM off, huh?? I've heard he really, really loves those trees. :o) Just teasing.... I loved reading your post, as always. It made me laugh, and it's been a long day. (yes, it's not even 2:00 yet.....) Love you!

I can't believe you went! But a vacation away from the kids, even if it is a morning/day does sound tempting. Your pictures are awesome. Jason was right about the leaves and the sun... darn husbands.
Thanks for the racoon trap idea, I love crazy xmas presents! We might just do that.

I'm not a hunter either, but the camping and spending a wonderful fall day out in the mountains sounds wonderful. Good for you for going - it does look fun. And LOL about Robert Redford - I've heard that he's really short and that his skin is all wrinkly now - but I'd still love running into him too :)

Where's the pic of you in your camouflage couture?! I'm sure Jason loved the fact that you went, even though it was for Robert Redford and not him. What a sweet wife you are to support him in his addict...um, I mean hobby. Beautiful pictures!

Your such a trooper, Mark wants to take me out riding on his motorbike adventure and i still haven't given in. anyways, you crack me up about robert redford, if you want to see him your best chance is eating at sundance. we went there a year ago and he sat one table away from us. i kept staring at him the whole night, it was great. but maybe carving your name and number in a tree might have also worked.

You are such a great sport. I don't think I could ever do that with a good attitude. And I would love to run into Robert Redford too... even though he looks like an old catchers mit. Love!

That looks so amazing. I'm not one to get up at 4 AM to listen to elk bugles or whatever, but I do wish I spent more time outside.

I do love the mountains, though, I don't think I would have been as good of a sport as you. At least you know he wants you around even when he is doing his hobby. You guys are good for each other.

Great pictures!! I too get a little frustrated with Gary.. It would be nice to spend tons of $$, leave for a whole day (without the kids) and just have some fun "MAN" time... I would love to spend a whole day (without the kids) with my friends and spend lots of money too! I enjoy pheasant hunting with Gary. That's the only hunting I enjoy. I did go duck hunting with Gary once.. I thought it was sad when Gary shot the duck and I lifted my head up to see and all I saw were some feathers slowly falling out of the sky, just like on the cartoons.. What was even worse was when he put the "dead" duck next to me and it kept moving.. Gary said it was just it's nerves still moving, but assured me it was dead. After awhile of complaining about the twitching duck next to me he thought it would make me feel better to wring it's neck.. GROSS!!! That is something I never want to see again, but at least the poor thing was for sure dead and out of it's misery right!!?? Wow, sorry about that novel! Anyways, your pictures are so beautiful! I enjoy getting up to the Mtns. too. Especially this time of year. Oh, and I think you would be perfect for a Redford film. Just have Jason carve your number in!! I bet you'll get a phone call... Have a great day!

Ampy, I'm so proud of you for being a trooper. Just get your fix in before you come out here because you HAVE to spend every minute with me. :) Plus, you won't want to sit in a tree stand and we don't have Robert Redford here.

AnnMarie, I totally know how you feel!! Josh is always asking me to go and I do (sometimes) but I'm afraid to leave the kids. I'm glad you had a great time. It is really beautiful! Did you get anything and I want to see you all dressed up in camo!! :)

Ampy, for the love of humanity (mainly for your sister who lives in Kansas), PLEASE put a picture of your deer on your blog. I'm so excited to see it and hear about your adventure.

What georgous pictures. And by the way, I think Robert Redford was better looking in his very young days. Much better to be alone in the woods with your own tough hunter.
