Sum sum summa time

Okay, is anyone else sick of the games the weather is playing lately? It's warm, it's freezing, it's hot, it's snowing, it's sunny, it's snowing again, all in the same day. And the wind, arg. Nothing is worse than a cold wind on a sunny day. It's so deceptive. I wake up and think I can be in a good mood for the day, then I go outside and realize there's a cold wind a-blowin, and bam, instant bad mood. I can't keep up with all these ups and downs! It's like an emotional rollercoaster. So as I sit here and plan my meals for the next week, I would like to focus on the grill. Ah, my little friend the grill, that will cook me summer-tasting food, even if if there is not the weather to back it up. On Monday, which was actually a beautiful little tease of a day, I barbequed chicken and pineapple on the grill and it was FABULOSO. Thanks to Costco for their always sweet $3 pineapples and also to my sister Kristen's mother-in-law Jolene (sending you a "Holla!" if you're reading this!)'s famous chicken marinade recipe. It has become a staple in the Price family. So, thank you, Jolene. I hope you don't mind that I'm passing it along to the free world. Basically, you take 2 cups 7-Up, 1 cup soy sauce, 1 cup oil and some garlic and marinate the chicken in a bag in your fridge. The recipe says to marinate for 24 hours, but sometimes I only have a few hours and it still turns out. You can also halve the recipe, I usually do. Now, I'm asking you, my beloved readers, for your favorite grilling recipes. Anything that is easy, yummy and basically reeks of summer will do. :)

BBQ's are the reason I'm usually fat in the summer. BBQ's are the best. BBQ's are one meal I go HOG WILD on.

I hope Heidi doesn't get mad at me for telling you this recipe, but I will give full credit to Heidi and Jairon for their Brazilian steaks. You get a nice thicker cut steak, rub and smother it in rock salt and let it sit for a while like that (how long, not sure - Heidi?) and then you grill it and continue rubbing it with rock salt each time you turn it, then get off all the rock salt before you eat it. It is the best steak I've ever tasted - SO flavorful, you don't need any A-1 and I'm an A-1 girl. YUM!

Yay! We got props for the steak! That is a compliment coming from Mrs. Red Meat Stroud! : ) I have no idea how long to cook it. The grill is Jairons job.
I am with you Anne Marie. I can just almost feel pure sunshine joy- but it gets crapped on by the cold. I don't like spring at all- only summer-- hot hot summer.
Hang in there!

Okay, so this isn't really a summer recipe, but a great "grill" tradition.. Growing up Gary's family would always have grilled hamburgers and homemade french fries for lunch after church. I must admit, we haven't been too good at keepin' the tradition, but when we remember to buy hamburger buns the night before fast Sunday lunch tastes great!!!

Ugh! I'm totally with you on the weather! I need some warmth!

Warm or not, we eat grilled salmon *every* Sunday night (I send Will out to the grill even in the snow!) It's so simple and our favorite meal of the week. We buy our salmon frozen at Costco so we just thaw it, slather each side with olive oil, sprinkle with blackened seasoning and cook on the grill at med. high 8-9 minutes each side. YUM!

I don't have any grill recipes, but I will keep checking back for everyone's elses. I am so with you on the weather. I am ready for summer and to be outside.
P.S. What is the feed thing at the bottom right of your blog?

I'm so excited to try the chicken recipe...and the yummy steak one above!! YUM... I don't really have any barbecue recipes. I don't do the barbecuing (is that a word??) at our house. Amy Clifton said she puts her delicious barbecue chicken pizza on the grill during the summer though...and I can't wait to try that. I don't think she'll mind me sharing that. Her pizza recipe is so stinking good. She said she does the chicken one with barbecue sauce and red onions. It sounds so good.... Anyway, I'm with you on the weather!! We were down at baseball games all day in Spanish Fork, and it was a pretty decent day, but the wind was AWFUL. Oh well, at least it was warm, huh??!! I should be grateful for things like that.... I can't wait for warmer weather though. :o)

P.S. I had to delete my other comment, 'cause I was signed in as tiger baseball. oops...

That chicken recipe sounds like the one we use for our chicken. Ok, I don't know. Matt's the one that does the BBQing here. But it sounds really good and kind-of like the one that I know Matt uses.
Salmon is always good. My 2 year old loves salmon, even if he can't say it. (We never even knew what Salmon was when I was that age.)
And the Steaks sound soooo good. I'll have to ask my hubby to try that. ha ha ha
We really like to BBQ Zucchini slices with evoo brushed on and 'salt and spice' or just some salt and pepper. Great way to use up all of our plentiful harvest of Zucchini. :)

We just grilled tonight. Of course we just did steaks our usual way (gourmet sauce from costco, Worcestershire sauce and McCormick's grill mate) nothing fancy, but tastes great.

One of my favs on the grill are kabobs. I think I've only made them once because it is too easy to stop by Albertson's. They are pretty self explanatory.

Basically just take any meat (we use chicken, steak and salmon usually) marinate it your fav way. Chop into about one inch cubes (or bigger if you prefer. Then take your veggies. I like red and green bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, and I always use TONS of pineapple. Stab those meats and veggies. Brush with a little olive oil (if desired) and throw them on.

I've also had shrimp ones that are delicious with like this cajun seasoning. But I just bought those. I think you are a good enough cook to figure out a way to make them fantastic.

P.S. Wind is awful. That is one of the main reasons I can't ever live in Rexburg again. I can't stand wind.

I think the sind is always blowing in Lehi. I was down there the other day for a bday party, and the wind was terrible. It wasn't even blowing at my house. And that chicken marinade sounds so yummy. Do you marinade the pineapple too? Yummy!

That sounds delicous. The weather hear in WA is equally as yucky. We had one really good day a couple of weeks ago but then nothing great since then. I would love to help you out but unfortunately I left all of my cook books in UT. Sad, I know. And, I don't know any receipes by heart. Luckily my sweet mom photo copied a few receipes for me & mailed them out. Now I just need to find a few good sites on line to get ideas from.

I completely agree with you about the weather, it is horrible. I hate the teases, just be warm all ready! Sorry, I dont have any grill recipes but thanks for yours, I am in desperate need!

That is the same recipe they use at the Manti Pageant for their marinated turkey. Try using turkey breasts next time! I do agree with you though! The weather is tricky right now!!!! I'm ready for warm sunshine weather like ewe had all week in New York! Call me, Let's chat!

Hi Anne Marie! I hope you don't mind me popping onto your blog...I don't even remember how I happened upon you! I'm usually not the "griller" at our house, but I do have a great marinade (I should try it on the grill!): Take about 2 Tbsp dijon mustard, and mix with about 1/2 c. oil, and 1/4 c. vinegar. Add salt and pepper, and toss your chicken in it. I usually bake it, but you could try it on the grill! p.s. I don't measure ANYTHING - I'm a kind of eye-ball-it cook, so good luck!
Hope all is well with you!

I hear you on the weather rollercoaster. It is so annoying. I just want it to be warm. Sorry I have no grilling recipes. Ryan does the grilling. He might have something good. I will have to tell him to give you an idea. OR maybe we will just have you guys over sometime and you can try his grilling for yourself. :)

Aaron also does our grilling and so I told him your recipe and we are both way excited to try it....Yum! So it was so fun to run into you at Costco! We both love Costco so much it was bound to happen sometime! I laughed what you wrote about it on mine....You know that's a low point when you TRY to steal a book to get "a break" by being thrown in jail! KIDDING! I totally know what really happened! I will keep checking for more great grillin' recipes....And I hope you are liking your new trees you bought! (Let us know if you like them because we are thinking of buying one there, too)
