First, Second and Third Pregnancies

I was cleaning out my scrapbook room the other day and I came across a paper that was given out at a baby shower when I was pregnant with my first baby. I had to laugh because I remember the first time I read it I was honestly a little offended because I didn't think I would EVER resort to treating my third child any different than my first (which would be like royalty, of course)... But live and learn. Sorry, Abby...

Your clothes
1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes as soon as your OB confirms that you are pregnant.
2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes for as long as possible.
3rd baby: Your regular clothes ARE your maternity clothes.

The Baby's Name
1st baby: You pore over baby name books and practice pronouncing and writing combinations of all your favorites.
2nd baby: Someone has to name their kid after great aunt Mavis, right? It may as well be you.
3rd baby: You open a name book, close your eyes, and see where your finger falls. Bimaldo? Perfect.

Preparing for the Birth
1st baby: You practice your breathing regularly.
2nd baby: You don't bother practicing because you remember the last time. Breathing didn't do a thing.
3rd baby: You ask for an epidural in the 8th month.

The Layette
1st baby: You prewash your newborn's clothes, color coordinate them and fold them neatly in the baby's little bureau.
2nd baby: You check to make sure that the clothes are clean and discard only the ones with the darkest stains.
3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can't they?

1st baby: At the first sign of distress - a whimper, a frown - you pick up your baby.
2nd baby: You pick up the baby when her wails threaten to wake your firstborn.
3rd baby: You teach your 3 year old how to wind the mechanical swing.

1st baby: You take your baby to baby gymnastics, baby swing and baby story hour.
2nd baby: You take your baby to baby gymnastics.
3rd baby: You take your baby to the supermarket and the dry cleaners.

Going Out
1st baby: The first time you leave your baby with a sitter, you call home 5 times.
2nd baby: Just before you walk out the door, you remember to leave a number where you can be reached.
3rd baby: You leave instructions for the sitter to call you only if she sees blood.

At Home
1st baby: You spend a good bit of every day just gazing at the baby.
2nd baby: You spend a bit of every day watching to be sure your older child isn't squeezing, poking or hitting the baby.
3rd baby: You spend a little bit of every day hiding from the children.

I think the funniest part of this is that I actually came across it while I was hiding from my kids... "Crap, they found me!"

Another small tutorial

I have had a few people ask me how to have their new comments emailed to them. It's easy - in blogger, just go into Dashboard (top right) (you may need to go into Customize first, which is also on the top right), then Settings (middle of the page in the white box), then Comments (tan bar across the top, about in the middle), then scroll down to the bottom and enter your email address in the Comment Notification Email box. It doesn't have to be your gmail account, either. It can be whatever the heck email you want it to be, and you can even enter multiple addresses. That would be a fun way to bug someone, like old boyfriends or your little sister, just send them all the comments from your blog. Just kidding, don't do that. At least, don't tell them that I told you to do that. Kay, do it now and thank me later when my next comment to you comes popping up in your email.

What a great Valentine's Day

Oh, my Jason. He just always pulls through for me on Valentine's Day. First he took me to lunch at Rumbi Island Grill, which I love. I usually just get a rice bowl, because one time I went out on a limb and got the kalua pork sandwich and it was two thumbs down, but today I decided to get adventurous again so I got the teriyaki chicken sandwich and it was soooo good! Grilled chicken, swiss cheese, red onion, lettuce, and grilled pineapple. So yummy! And I tried the chips and tropical salsa and it was way good, too. I also splurged and got a mango passion smoothie, and it was so refreshing. It was so nice to have a little bit of the tropics in the middle of this cold, wretched winter we are having (will it never end???). Then tonight Jason had me load up the kids and took me to the mall for my token outfit from the Buckle. I got a hoodie, some jeans and 2 tank tops. I'm so excited for new clothes! He also surprised me with some beautiful roses and bought me ice cream at Coney's on the way home. Oh, he didn't even have to do anything and he made sure it was a great day. I just love him! He makes me laugh every day. Seriously, he's just hilarious. The other day he was talking about someone doing a shady business deal or something and he said, "I don't know how that guy sleeps with himself at night." I laughed for like an hour. I'm still laughing! Happy Valentine's Day, Jason! I love you!!!!

You know you're addicted to blogging when....

your internet goes down for a few days and you go absolutely CRAZY!!!! Seriously, it wasn't even for very long, but I just couldn't stand the thought that people were posting and I wasn't reading or commenting! It was pretty sad. So let me introduce you to my new favorite thing called FEEDS. In Internet Explorer, it is right up by the Favorites button (star) and it downloads the latest posts of all your favorite blogs and saves them for you to read. You can tell who has posted because their name will be in bold. Talk about a time saver! ha ha. So here's how you do it: at the bottom of someone's blog you will see a little link that says "Subscribe to: Posts (atom)". Click on that. It will bring up a page with just the text of the blog. There is a link near the top that says "Subscribe to this feed". Click on that. Now, when you click on your little favorites star, look at the top and where it says Favorites Feeds History and click Feeds. Then the names of all the feeds that you are subscribed to will appear. Any that have been updated that you haven't looked at will be bold. If you click them you will see the text-only version, but you can click the blog name at the top and it will bring up the full monty. Oh my heavens, why did I not discover this sooner? Probably everybody already knows all this, but for me it was a lifesaver because the feeds download and once they are there you don't have to be connected to the internet to read them. Oh, and if you right click on them (in the Feeds list), you can go to properties and set it to update frequently, like every 15 minutes if you're really obsessed. Anyway, you probably already knew all that and it was just a repeat, but if not, feel free to ask any questions and I will help you. Also, if you don't have your comments set to email you when people make a new comment, you really need to get with the program. Just kidding, but it is nice to know when you have a new comment and not have to refresh your page. So, now you know that thing #101 about me is I have anger management issues when my internet isn't working, and #102 is I really am obsessed and need to get a hobby.

Take the challenge!

(I love this picture of President Hinckley. Click on it to read a news story about it.) I got an email today from a friend telling me about a way to honor President Hinckley by reading the Book of Mormon in 97 days (1 day for each year of his life), starting today and ending May 11. There is a web site set up for it at where you can track your progress, and even post a little graph on your blog. I decided to take the challenge! It may be a little more time consuming than my regular scripture study, but heck, I need the blessings. It's funny because I try to read a little from the Book of Mormom every night, and just a few nights ago I finished it again and was trying to decide if I wanted to start from the beginning, or study different topics, or what... I read the last chapter in Moroni again last night for the third night in a row because #1 - I love that chapter, and #2 - I just couldn't decide what to do! So this makes it easy for me. Plus, I always work better with a system and a goal in mind. I encourage you to take the challenge! I know you will be blessed!

Dallin's Fish Birthday

Well, my little baby Dallin is 5 years old! I can't believe it was five years ago that I brought that little boy home from the hospital on a snowy February day. But at the same time, I can't really remember what life was like before I had kids... what did I do all day? But I have to say that my life changed for the better at 2:59 am on February 2, 2003. I'll never forget the feeling of holding my precious little baby for the first time and realizing that this was the same little critter that had been swimming around in my stomach for 9 months, and that he was mine forever!!! It was such a powerful experience that I was seriously worried that it wouldn't be possible to feel that way ever again and I was worried that it would be different with my other children. But, it was just as amazing with Luke and Abby. Anyway, Dallin had a great birthday on Saturday. He wanted to have a "Fish Birthday" so we went to the aquarium in Salt Lake and had a fun time with his cousins and aunts and uncles and grandparents in the afternoon. Then we had a little get-together with cake and ice cream in the evening. The cake was really the main event. My friend Lessley made one of her famous birthday cakes for him, complete with a coral reef and Nemo coming out of an anemone and it was awesome! He was so excited about it. Look at all the details!!! Thank you, Lessley! And Happy Birthday, my little Dallin!
